A Study of the Effects of Movement Therapy Upon the Anxiety Level of Psychiaric Inpatients


Abstract
The purpose of the study was to test the effectiveness of movement therapy for psychiatric inpatients.
The subjects of this study were 30 psychiatric inpatients. One group subjects participacted in a series of movement therapy sessions. The other group subjects participated in the usual activity prod ram at the therapeutic environment.
The researcher taught movement therapy to the movement therapy sessions and while using movement therapy for 6 days.
The measurement tool employed by the researcher was Spielberger¢¥s State & Trait Anxiety Scale.
Data were analyzed by statistical methods including frequency, t-test, paired t-test. Results included the following;
The state and trait anxiety scale of the movement therapy group who was given movement therapy would be lower than the other group who was not fivers movement therapy.
Findings from the study contribute to the body of knowledge of nursing science as well as to the therapeutic activity program development by providing empirical support for specific nursing intervention.
